I've just found that exporting from Sketchup to Unity using DAE, that you do not have to adjust the colour brightness, so will save a lot of time. Also importing into Sketchup is easier, as you wil not need a plugin to do so and you can use the free version of Sketchup to export DAE.
The screens of the models seem to already have a mesh as you may know, so maybe it will not be so difficult to make a placeholder out of it.
